Summer CLASSES/WORKSHOPS and SHOWS

The Learning & Product Expo Lisle, Illinois

July 9, 10, and 11th 2009

Creative Visioning in Watercolor for Each Month of the Year
Have you thought about how you want to spend your time from now until next year at this time? Everything starts with a thought. And sometimes writing that thought down or painting it can make it even more powerful.
Paint a mini-painting on watercolor postcards - one for your vision of each month of the year. Often using a smaller size surface can be less intimidating than a huge sheet of paper. I'll start off demonstrating some simple trees or flowers in the foreground with a wash of color in the background that could be used again using different colors or compositions. Or use some photos and quotes I'll have handy as your inspiration. Since they are postcards you could paint an image on one side and write a corresponding quote/idea/thought on the other side.
Ideas of what to do with your postcards once you've finished - address them and send to 12 different friends who need a lift, send them to one person you love every month this year, take them to a photo store and make them into a calendar, or frame them for yourself in mini-frames. The Richeson company will supply the paint, brushes, and postcards.

Creative Visioning in Watercolor for Each Month of the Year

Have you thought about how you want to spend your time from now until next year at this time? Everything starts with a thought. And sometimes writing that thought down or painting it can make it even more powerful.

Paint several mini-paintings on watercolor postcards - one for your vision of each month of the year. Often using a smaller size surface can be less intimidating than a huge sheet of paper. I'll start off demonstrating some simple trees and flowers in the foreground with a wash of color in the background that could be used over and over using different colors or compositions. Use some photos and quotes that I will have handy as your inspiration. Or bring in some ideas you'd like to express. Since they are postcards you can paint an image on one side and write a corresponding quote/idea/thought on the other side. When they dry we can use pens or colored pencils to highlight areas or darken and lighten.

Ideas of what to do with your postcards once you've finished - address them and send to 12 different friends who need a lift, send them to one person you love every month this year, take them to a photo store and make them into a calendar, or frame them for yourself in mini-frames - I'm sure we can come up with more ideas! The Richeson company will supply all of the paint, brushes, and postcards.

Watercolor Mono-prints
Are you feeling like this left-brained world is stressing you out and you need to use your creative side? Unwind and live in the moment while making colorful mono-prints. We will use watercolors supplied by the Richeson Company painted on plexiglass to make mono-prints. Be warned that this can be addicting! We’ll then experiment with droppers, funny brushes, and sponges that will be available for your use. The camaraderie of the class offers a unique opportunity to bring your art to a higher level by brainstorming with each other in a relaxed, fun environment.

Growing your artist’s portfolio - NEW!
Growing Your Artist's Portfolio - $145
NFA S56 006 W 6/3-8/5 12:30-2:30 p.m. D158

If you’re an artist or just like making art and would like to someday have a complete portfolio, this is the class for you. Bring your current favorite media and ideas to work on (although I’ll always have ideas to work from if you feel stuck that day) and I will (www.telfleur.com) encourage and help guide you so that you begin to build a consistent body of work to fill a portfolio. Being in a group will give you the chance to see how others handle their favorite medium while you work with your own. In late June you will have the opportunity to show at least one piece of work in an art exhibition in the MCC display cases across from the bookstore.

The first day of class bring in some samples or photos of your work. We’ll take a look at them, sort them into categories, and talk about the direction you’d like to focus on. The class at this time is limited to people working with two-dimensional media; drawing, painting, or mixed media/collage. Email if you have any questions about this class: mary@telfleur.com
